REPUTATION MANAGEMENT COMPANIES: Dealing with the Press!
In some situations reputation management companies need to deal with the press. This often done as either repair or to protect a reputation. The idea is to get a message out that to the public in an attempt to fight negative comments that are being said about a person or a company. In this type of situation reputation management or repair is tenuous to say the least. One of the main reasons for this is when involves the press, is the fact that you lose a little of your control over your message. For example, the reporters and editors who cover your story may put their own spin on it. This is why it is important to have a good reputation management team deal with the media. And, it is also paramount to take both aggressive and immediate measures when your reputation and credibility are attacked.
It took many days for Queen Elizabeth to respond to the news that Princess Diana was killed. And when the world saw this slow response many people they assumed the worse about Queen Elizabeth. A slow response in most cases is will bring about “bad press.” This something you do not want.
A similar case scenario exists on the Internet. Like people, the Internet has a long memory. Perhaps longer in many cases. Too make matters much of the content on the Internet is there to stay. In the past the radio and newspapers delivered the news. Radio broadcasts were forgotten and newspapers thrown away. But the Internet is a different story. Youtube videos, pictures, reviews and articles do not fade away that easily.
